How To Care For Your Invisalign

Unlike braces, clear aligners like Invisalign can be taken out offering you the freedom to eat and brush your teeth as per normal. But with this freedom comes great responsibility. Taking care of your clear aligners is just as important as wearing them.

Follow Invisalign Instructions From Your Dentist Unlike braces, clear aligners are primarily cared for by the patient. It is your responsibility to wear them for no less than 22 hours per day. You'll also be responsible for taking them off and on when eating and drinking. As well as maintaining regular brushing habits to protect your oral health. Remember your dentist has your best interests at heart. Follow their guidelines and you'll have straight teeth in no time! Clean Your Invisalign With Warm Water Only If you have ever poured boiling water into plastic, you'll remember how it shrinks, warps, and twists. It's important to not use hot water to clean your Invisalign. It will not only damage your aligners but also delay your treatment. The same goes for super cold water as well. It can make the plastic brittle and cracks may appear. Our tip? Use lukewarm water only. And remember to rinse them out as soon as you remove them. This will lessen the chance for bacteria to build up. Always Take Out When Eating and Drinking Your Invisalign is not made to withstand the pressure of chewing and biting into food. This also goes for drinking. Food can get stuck between your teeth and the aligning tray. Drinks can stain your aligners, especially beverages like coffee, juices, soda, tea, and wine. Before you eat or drink, remember to take your Invisalign out, and don't be tempted to take "just a little bite" either. Store Your Invisalign in an Airtight Container When your Invisalign isn't in your mouth, it must be stored correctly. If you have a habit of leaving them on your bedside table or the bathroom sink, it's time to break that habit! After rinsing your aligners with water, store them in an airtight container until you're ready to put them back in your mouth. Your dentist will provide you with a case for your Invisalign to avoid unnecessary contact with bacteria. Interested in Invisalign? Schedule a Consultation in Guelph Today!
